Basic Training
By: Rev. Sharon Frank, Encourage Ministry Women Coordinator
In our present world we see turmoil, combat, pandemics, and people vying for positions. We see people caught in overwhelming situations. We see hurting people who need an escape. Some of these shake us. Some drive us to our knees. Some call on us to advance and defend. Some call on us to serve. Our military on the front lines and leaders at home are attempting to defend our country and ideals. We as Christians attempt to speak and meet needs. But where do we stand? How do we prepare to be the best God has called us to be? How do we advance God’s kingdom in the midst of all this?
If we were in the military, the first thing we would be sent to do would be basic training. It would be rigorous and demanding. It would demand our total commitment and focus. In some cases it would separate those who are capable and willing and those who are not.
In like fashion, perhaps we need to get back to the basics. Why did we sign up to serve God? What is in our hearts? If we can get that deep within us we can gain or regain the vision that will not be deterred no matter what comes before us.
There is also the matter of continuing to stay in shape. In the military that is called PT, however for us it is a continual exercising of our faith and studying. It is this that can help us defeat our greatest enemy and the part of us that would be tempted to compromise and therefore derail the mission.
As with any mission there is always a battle plan. God lays out our specific orders each day and as we follow that plan, we help win the battles along the way in people’s lives to bring forth victory.
So I ask again, where do we stand? Is it time to re-evaluate so as 6to become all we can be? I pray the following articles will challenge and spur us on to greater exploits and victories.
Blessings!
