As a young girl, I imagined being a pastor's wife. I would sit with my baby dolls on our stairs and pretend my husband was preaching. I would shout out "Amen" from the stairs toward the landing. After the preaching I would greet the ladies and pretend they were all interested in me and my babies.
Those were the days of imagination when being a ministry woman was always pleasant, and everyone wanted to be my friend.
Now that I'm grown and no longer pretending, I have come to know the ministry life is not easy. That smile on Sunday morning can be a cover for some big sadness, hurt, and loneliness.
As ministry women, caring for others and receiving care for ourselves can be a tricky balancing act. My desire is to provide a safety net for ministry women, couples and families walking that tight rope.
